BEIJING, November 16 (TMTPOST) — Alibaba Cloud, known as Aliyun in China, will be opening up two more cloud data centers in Thailand and South Korea respectively. The two centers are expected to enter operation in 2022 and provide localized digital services for local clients.
Alibaba Cloud has several hundred cloud data centers in 25 countries and regions, including Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, Germany, UAE, and the United States. It is currently the biggest cloud computing platform in Asia.

The company has been expanding rapidly in overseas markets in the past three years. According to open information, Alibaba Cloud’s overseas market scale had surged by ten times in the past three years. As the company continues to grow its business overseas, it is building more cloud computing infrastructure in Asia-Pacific regions to lay grounds for its expansion.
“The Asia-Pacific market has the most active digital economy in the world, especially in Southeast Asia where young people are embracing the use of the Internet and new technologies,” said Yuan Qian, the General Manager of Alibaba’s Cloud Intelligent International Division. “We are hoping to work with local partners and clients in these markets to promote a digital transformation.”
Alibaba Cloud has built its localization teams in Thailand and South Korea. The company will be providing services for clients from industries like retail, finance, manufacturing, logistics, and the Internet in South Korea. It has already signed cooperation agreements with local companies such as Megazone, Lascom, and Bankware Global. In Thailand, Alibaba Cloud has partnered with several local enterprises as well, including famous real estate developer K.E. Group and food packaging retailer Brother & Brother.
After building data centers in Thailand and South Korea, Alibaba Cloud will work on enhancing its cooperation with local partners and clients. The company will launch an accelerator program for small and medium-sized companies in South Korea and a partner alliance initiative in Thailand.
Alibaba Cloud is now the third biggest cloud computing service provider in the world and the biggest in Asia Pacific. Its market share in Asia Pacific had risen from 3.7% in 2016 to 9.5% in 2020 while global marekt share saw continuous growth for five consecutive years.
