BEIJING, December 27 (TMTPOST) — Chinese smartphone brand Huawei announced on Monday a shockingly high repair fee for its foldable flagship P50 Pocket that was launched at Huawei’s winter launch conference held on December 23.
The fee for screen replacement alone is 4,379 yuan (around US$687), which is higher than that of many flagship models from Chinese smartphone brands. The fee for repairing the motherboard is also a whopping 3,399 yuan (US$533).
Huawei P50 Pocket is a foldable flagship that folds vertically. The new foldable flagship is equipped with a 6.9-inch 21:9 flexible display that has a resolution of 2790x1188 and 120Hz refresh rate, running on Snapdragon 888 or Huawei’s own Kirin 9000 chip. P50 Pocket is weighed 190g and 7.2mm thin.
P50 Pocket comes with three color options – black, gold and silver. Its base model, with 8GB ram and 256GB storage, is priced at 8,988 yuan (or US$1,299). Its customized premium version, which comes in with 12GB ram and 512GB storage, is sold at 10,988 yuan (or US$1,499).

Despite the high repair fee, Huawei P50 Pocket has received good reviews from users. The flagship model was sold out twice in pre-sales on Chinese e-commerce platform JD.com. Currently, around 12,000 people have ordered P50 Pocket on the platform. The flagship’s first batch of users has all given the model 5-star reviews. There is literally no bad review on P50 Pocket on JD.com.
“P50 Pocket has an amazing look and sound quality,” a review wrote on JD.com. “I don’t really 5G network so it is fine for the phone to not have 5G capacity. 4G network works for me already.” Most users praised P50 Pocket’s industrial design and quality in their reviews. Some reviewers pointed out that it is a pity that P50 Pocket does not have 5G capacity.
Huawei is facing U.S. sanctions right now, which prevent the company from accessing crucial technologies and services from crucial American suppliers, including 5G chips.
