BEIJING, February 18 (TMTPOST) — Winter sports teenage athlete sensation Eileen Gu won her second gold medal in women’s freeski halfpie at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games on Friday, concluding her participation in the Olympics with two golds and one silver.
Gu established her dominance in the halfpie final as she secured 93.25 points in the first run and outdid herself in the second run with a score of 95.25 points. This means Gu had already gotten her hands on the gold medal even before the final run. Canadian athlete Cassie Sharpe took silver. In comparison, Sharpe’s best score in her rounds was 90.75 points.
Before women’s freeski halfpie, Gu has already bagged one gold from big air and one silver from slopestyle for China. Gu is the first freeski athlete to acquire three medals in a Winter Games in the event’s history.
After Gu’s triumphant victory in freeski halfpie, athletes representing China have acquired eight gold medals in total.
The Chinese team has acquired gold medals in 2000-meter short track speed skating mixed team relay, 1000-meter short track speed skating, women’s big air, 500-meter speed skating, women’s aerials, snowboard big air, men’s aerials and women’s halfpie. China now ranked fourth on Friday with eight gold medals, four silvers and 14 bronzes, following Norway, Germany and the United States in the top three. Norway is leading the chart with 15 gold medals, 8 silvers and 11 bronzes.
