BEIJING, September 13 (TMTPOST) – Although control measures have been strengthened in several cities since the end of August due to coronavirus outbreaks in some areas of China, freight logistics in China has maintained a continuous upward momentum.
Data from the Ministry of Transport showed that last Thursday, 8.049 million trucks passed through the country"s highways, up 0.48% from the last year. The seven-day moving average data shows that since September 3, the national highway truck traffic has continued to rise, and has exceeded the level on April 27 when the data was first released. In early May and early June, the indicator once saw a deep decline, but soon rebounded, and then oscillated all the way higher.
In late March, in order to cut off the spread of the virus, many places implemented highway closure control, resulting in poor freight, affecting people"s livelihood and the manufacturing supply chain. On April 11, the General Office of the State Council issued a notice that smooth freight and logistics must be ensured as well as pandemic prevention and control.
Data from Intelligent logistics platform G7 showed that the national road freight index rose for the fourth consecutive week from August 29 to September 4, recording 101.9, which was close to the level in early July. Among the four first-tier cities in China, Guangzhou took the lead in the rise of road freight traffic. While Shenzhen, which was more severely affected by the pandemic, also saw its road freight traffic grow by 0.6% from the previous week.
Comparing the data for the same period in 2020 and 2021, G7"s national road freight index both saw an increase. Seasonal factor may be another factor contributing to the continued rebound in national road freight volumes, as the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday in 2022 is earlier than in previous years.
